What is it?
NitroMation is the first commercially available Web Service Interface to PTC's Pro/ENGINEER. A Web Service is the latest hot technology for integrating dissimilar applications with each other using XML transactions. We were inspired by the levels of success our larger customers had using Web Services to integrate enterprise applications, and also by the efforts of companies like Google, Amazon.com, Expedia.com and others to quickly and easily connect dissimilar systems together over a network using XML.
How does it work?
The NitroMation-API works completely outside of Pro/ENGINEER and is a Web Service, so you will be using industry proven and accepted technologies like XMLRPC and SOAP to connect your applications together. Once you are in the world of XML transactions, the tools you use (e.g. programming languages) to integrate your applications with Pro/ENGINEER become trivial. All programming languages support XMLRPC/SOAP interfaces at some level, so it is easy to connect your existing Visual Basic, Java or C/C++ application to Pro/ENGINEER and directly manipulate it. The same goes for Scripting languages like php, python, and Tcl/Tk.
Because of our extensive experience with Tcl/Tk, the NitroMation-API is delivered with an Object-Oriented Tcl/Tk interface right out of the box! Faster and easier to use than our previous scripting interface p-Shell, and switching to NitroMation is simple and easy...
Why is it Special?
After enjoying many years of success with our p-Shell API and the applications produced with it, we started to test new approaches and technology to see if we could do things even better than before, and more importantly expand our potential customer base. The results were amazing, allowing for the following benefits:

Another key benefit of NitroMation is that you can now develop and deliver applications easier than ever. As a method of comparison, our p-Shell API required a 14-18 megabyte installation that require additional configuration of Pro/ENGINEER, your operating system, sometimes your network (port allocation) and then you had to properly install your software and license, ending up with a final configuration of Pro/ENGINEER to register the application and get it to start up when Pro/ENGINEER started. Whew!!! :(
As a method of comparison, NitroMation applications developed with our Tcl/TK optimized interface are typically between 2-4 megabytes in size (total) and can be placed/launched on your desktop. When you launch the application, it will self-configure and self-connect to Pro/ENGINEER! No need to worry about licensing, we take care of everything through our Nitro-LM package and via your web account. You just focus on getting your work done! :)
